What are Digital X-rays?
Digital x-rays use special machinery to help create in-depth radiographic images that are immediately transposed to our computers. This requires no waiting, which ensures a quick and convenient appointment. What’s more, digital x-rays use a minimal amount of radiation when compared to other methods, so they’re safer for you and your family. We offer the very latest in digital x-ray technology when you visit our office.
Why are Digital X-rays needed?
X-rays allow us to see things that would otherwise go unnoticed during a normal exam. X-rays are often necessary prior to oral surgeries, during root canal therapy and any time you come in for a checkup. If you’re a new patient or it’s been a few years since your last set, we’ll recommend having a full series of x-rays taken in our office. Digital x-rays are beneficial to the health of your smile because treatment is more personalized to your needs.
Who is a candidate for Digital X-rays?
The digital x-ray technology we use in our office utilizes a small amount of radiation. This makes them safe for the majority of patients coming into our office. In fact, we often recommend x-rays for pediatric patients as well as adults. The benefits of x-rays far outweigh any risks that come from having them done. You can expect x-rays to be taken at most of your dental appointments.
What happens during the process of taking Digital X-rays?
We begin by draping a lead-lined apron over your body. This is specially done to help prevent you from being exposed to radiation. The small digital device is placed in the mouth and a larger machine is angled directly at it. The x-ray is taken and the image immediately shows up on our computer screens. This prevents the likelihood that a bad x-ray is being taken and not providing us with the details we need to see. This process is repeated until all of the necessary x-rays are taken.
If you think you need digital x-rays and want to learn more about this technology, call us today and we can get you in for a convenient appointment.
