Implant-Supported Dentures
What are Implant-Supported Dentures?
Dentures are custom-made for each individual patient. Unfortunately, there may come a time when dentures are just too ill-fitting, leaving them uncomfortable and even painful. If you’re finding yourself constantly reaching for the adhesive gel and cream to keep your dentures in place, it might be time to consider implant-supported dentures. These dentures connect to a series of dental implants that are permanently placed in the mouth.
Why are Implant-Supported Dentures needed?
The reason we may recommend and suggest implant-supported dentures is because you have an ill-fitting plate that keeps slipping and falling out. The denture may not be sitting correctly, and no amount of adjusting is going to help the way that it looks. Many patients find that implant-supported dentures are more natural-looking. You can experience a fuller and healthier-looking smile thanks to the technology behind dental implants.
Who is a candidate for Implant-Supported Dentures?
Dental implants can successfully fuse to the underlying bone once they’re placed. In order for this to happen, there needs to be enough healthy bone structure in the area the implants will be placed. If there isn’t enough bone structure, we may suggest a bone grafting before implant surgery. You should be healthy enough to undergo oral surgery while having the ability to heal properly once it’s complete.
What happens during the process for Implant-Supported Dentures?
The process begins by administering a sedative of your choice. We then place several implants during the same appointment. These implants are strategically placed around the arch of the mouth to properly hold in the new denture. Over the course of a 4-6 months, the implants heal and we can make a permanent denture for you. This denture is made specifically to connect to the implants.
